It’s a great time of year! Particularly around Optus Stadium way. The mornings are crisp, the view over the Swan idyllic, and the footy is starting to get interesting.
Around the WA Mining Club, we’ve had a few great luncheons under our belt but the thing that really starts to get us excited, footy season aside, is the start of the real season. The Scholarship awards season!!
After such a great 2020 Scholarships program culminating in a massive Grand Finale at our new home Optus Stadium, we are super excited to roll out the 2021 program. The call for applications is well underway and will close on Friday 25 June at 5:00pm.
As always, our modus operandi and that of our scholarship partners and co-sponsors is to encourage and foster the development of the next generation of leaders within Western Australia’s mining sector. The WA Mining Club and our partners have been doing just that for almost 20 years. In that time not only has more than $800,000 in scholarships been awarded to our worthy candidates but countless opportunities in the form of mentoring, vacation work and networking have been facilitated to not only winners but also our finalists. That’s hundreds of young professionals whose lives have been changed by this wonderful program and the generous support of our Cosponsors, not to mention the ripple effect of the influence these professionals have had on all those around them.
The result? An absolutely massive turbo-charged entry into the industry……and the proof is in the pudding. Our winners and finalists have gone on to run some of the biggest mines in the country, have had outstanding careers in mining internationally and have worked on some of the most exciting projects locally and abroad.
This year we thank our cosponsors Mt Gibson Iron, IGO, Iluka, Western Areas and Sandfire for their continued support of our wonderful program. We look forward to another great program and a big thanks to our members as always for your enthusiasm and support of such a great initiative.
So, we implore you to get onboard and spread the word to the next wave of industry leaders in your family, network, university or friendship group, get your applications in and be a part of something very special, and stay tuned for some potentially huge developments over the last week or so surrounding new categories…. watch this space if not for 2021 then definitely for 2022. Applications for 2021 are now open and will close on Friday 25 June at 5:00pm
Shortlisted applicants will be notified in July and invited to attend an interview with the selection panel in late July.
The Awards ceremony will take place at a WA Mining Club luncheon in August.
