Event - 2025 July Luncheon – Elsabe Muller, Alcoa Australia

Alcoa have been a staple part of the WA mining and processing diet for over 6 decades – a beneficiary of the Sir Charles Court influence of industrial development in this state. Given Alcoa’s influence on our state economy, they fly under the radar compared to the iron ore, gold, lithium (and until recently) nickel sectors.

So let’s put that right and welcome Elsabe Muller (President and VP Operations for Alcoa Australia) as our guest speaker in a fireside chat with Tim McMillan at Optus Stadium.

We’ll find out about the scale of Alcoa’s operations and economic contribution to WA and the nation. We’ll also learn about the differences along the value-add chain from the naturally occurring bauxite, to processing operations to produce alumina and aluminium and how much of this value-add chain is conducted in Australia. We’ll hear about the varied uses of aluminium and how they’re integral to the energy transition, transport and keeping Coca Cola from making your hands sticky. Given the energy intensity of production, we’ll hear about Alcoa’s plans to navigate WA’s electricity market future in the face of looming power generation uncertainty, to how Alcoa are conducting world leading rehabilitation and navigating future project approvals. They’re also at the forefront of innovation with technology, products and research focused on reducing carbon emissions in all aspects of their operations.
