The WA Mining Club’s 2024 scholarship program concluded on May 9th with the scholarship awards dinner. The event brought together finalists, sponsors, and club members for networking and a keynote speech by David Rose on the historical significance of mining in human progression. The Eddie Plume prize for the most outstanding scholarship winner in 2023 was awarded to Yasmin Fox Mooney.
Out of 172 applicants, eleven scholarships were granted, marking a 50% increase from 2023. Winners receive $10,000 cash, club membership, mentoring, vacation work opportunities, free admission to Young Professionals events, one complimentary lunch, and a $1,200 training voucher from ATI Mirage. The primary benefit remains the networking opportunities for finalists and winners.
Scholarships were awarded across various categories including Mining Engineering, Geology, Chemical Engineering/Metallurgy, Environmental Science, Mature Age, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Female in a Technical Discipline, Male in a Technical Discipline, and Indigenous Upskilling.
