The $10,000 scholarship grants are awarded to students to assist with relieving financial pressures and enhancing professional development so that students can focus on their education and build relationships within the industry.
The scholarships assist students like Miguel Bachiller, winner of the 2013 Mining Engineering Scholarship, who was able to focus on finishing his degree with additional mentoring and networking benefits.
The continued support and mentoring from the WA Mining Club and Western Areas was invaluable in allowing Miguel to focus on achieving high results from his degree and work towards attaining first class honours.
Miguel completed summer vacation work at the Olympic Dam in South Australia and took up the opportunity to be a university tutor for a resource estimation unit.
He later took on the role of Production Engineer at Western Areas- Forrestania Nickel Project.
The WA Mining Club is committed to supporting the next generation of industry professionals and does this through the co-sponsoring of six highly coveted scholarships.
Students have until the end of May to apply for a scholarship with winners announced at the WA Mining Club’s annual Scholarships Awards dinner.
