March WA Mining Club Lunch 151

President’s Address

We’ve had four amazing events already this year and it’s only March. Nat Taylor, The WA Mining Club President,  would like you to know that we have a great lineup for the rest of the year including three more Young Professionals Events, three more breakfasts in conjunction with the Energy club and our Optus stadium luncheons.

Our scholarship applicants are now being reviewed by the sponsors. Every year the WA Mining Club, in conjunction with industry co-sponsors, offers a number of scholarships to encourage and foster the development of the next generation of leaders within Western Australia’s mining sector. The committee is proud the club has delivered the scholarship program for 20 years now.

This month launched the Energy & Resources Breakfast Series parenting with the Energy Club.  This synergy gives our members the opportunity to connect and collaborate to enhance the sustainable development of the sectors within Western Australia.

Nat was saddened to inform everyone that one of our club’s long-standing members, Steve Cowley passed away in the early morning of Sunday at his home in Brisbane, Queensland.

Steve, well-known in the West Australian resource industry, served on the committee for 6 years and was president from 2003 – 2005 and held a Life Member position.

During his tenure, the current club logo was adopted, and the all-important scholarship scheme was launched.  The St Barbara’s Day memorial bench was placed at UWA and the much-improved Minesite newsletter came to life. The club raised a glass to Steve at the recent luncheon.

The committee is looking forward to the scholarship awards dinner and next luncheon.
