October President’s Address

October President’s Address

Hi, and welcome to the October edition of the WA Mining Club’s Industry Update.

Last month, we heard from a panel of well-respected mining company executives as they discussed their up-and-coming projects and the challenges these explorers have been facing at the September luncheon: Explorers on the Move.

Deloitte Head of Financial Advisory and WA Mining Leader Nikki Ivory, Liontown Resources managing director and CEO Tony Ottaviano, Strandline Resources managing director and CEO Luke Graham, Widgie Nickel managing director Steve Norregaard did a great job tackling questions from the room about diversity and inclusion, renewables and skills shortages.

Also in September, it became mandatory for workers visiting mine sites, gas facilities, and critical operations to be vaccinated for COVID-19 from December 2021, which means by 1 December, all FIFO workers and employees in mining, exploration, oil and gas, and resources sites will need to have had their first jab and by 1 January 2022 will need to be fully vaccinated.

The WA Mining Club was honoured to participate in the Indigenous Emerging Business Forum, held at the Crown Casino, which hosted more than 90 Indigenous companies in front of a crowd of more than 650 attendees.

The forum encourages and assists business development and bridging the digital divide, allowing for greater access to information and technology for community and economic development.

We saw a fantastic display of local Indigenous businesses, well done to all those involved.

The WA Mining Club Young Professionals team is currently recruiting, so please encourage your young professionals to apply.

Young professionals are our future. They drive diversification and innovation within the mining industry through the creation of a forum that supports the development and retention of the next generation of mining industry leaders.
