The past month has been another busy and rewarding period for the WA Mining Club.

One of the highlights was our annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony, where we recognised the outstanding students who will become the next generation of leaders in our industry. The calibre of applicants continues to impress, and it is encouraging to see so many talented young people choosing careers in mining and resources.

A sincere thank you to our scholarship sponsors for their ongoing support and commitment to developing future industry talent. These opportunities simply would not exist without your investment in education and the next generation. Thank you also to our keynote speaker, Scott Williamson from Horizon Minerals, for sharing his insights and career journey with our scholarship recipients and guests.

We also recently held our June luncheon, which explored the theme “Running on Empty”. Members heard from Dr Ross Lambie from the Minerals Council of Australia, who provided valuable insights into the Federal Budget and the implications for the resources sector. This was followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion with Ross, Izzi and Jeff, covering fuel security, energy policy and the broader challenges facing Australian industry.

These discussions highlighted the importance of strong advocacy and informed debate as our industry navigates increasing cost pressures, productivity challenges and global uncertainty. Thank you to our speakers for sharing their expertise and perspectives with our members.

Following our Annual General Meeting, I would also like to congratulate Tracey Chan and Bernard Hoogenboom on their election to the WA Mining Club Committee. We look forward to the experience, ideas and energy they will bring as we continue to grow and strengthen the Club.
