Dear Members,
I am incredibly proud and honoured to introduce myself as the new President of the WA Mining Club.
My journey with the Club began as a mentee in the Emerging Leaders program, created by former committee member Craig Hook. I was paired with George Bauk, who at the time was Managing Director and CEO of Northern Minerals and has held numerous executive roles across rare earth ASX-listed companies. George’s belief in me was a turning point, and through an introduction he made at Deloitte, I was encouraged to apply for the MMI grant.
Without that connection and George’s support, I never would have applied. That grant played a significant role in helping expand our manufacturing operations here in Western Australia. It highlighted the very real and lasting impact this Club can have on its members.
Since then, I have had the opportunity to lead the Emerging Leaders program, manage the Club’s marketing for four years, and most recently serve as Chair of the Young Professionals. The relationships I’ve built and the opportunities I’ve been given through the Club have been truly life changing. It’s something I want every member to experience.
This Club exists for you. Our members are the heart of everything we do. My door is always open, and I encourage you to reach out whether it’s with feedback, a new idea, or simply for a conversation.
As I take on this role, I want to thank those who have led the Club before me. I especially acknowledge Dani Tamati for her outstanding leadership as President over the past year, and for her long-standing contribution to the Club and the committee. Dani, your dedication and energy have made a lasting impact, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside you.
I’m also pleased to welcome two new committee members: Christine Croft from Scitech and Shelley Whittaker from Delta Lithium. Christine has been a WA Mining Club member for over 20 years and will co-lead our scholarships program alongside Barry Upton. Shelley brings a wealth of governance experience, having recently played a key role in the Ballard Mining IPO, and was a speaker at our recent Miners Mingle event. We are fortunate to have such a passionate and experienced committee guiding the Club forward.
Looking ahead, we have an exciting year planned. Our next Miners Mingle will take place on 3 July and is themed around maximising your potential. These events bring together a mix of young professionals and experienced industry leaders in a relaxed, cocktail-style setting. This particular event features a panel discussion hosted by Matty Michael, with panellists George Bauk, Claire Parkinson and Deb Morrow. Tickets are selling quickly and it promises to be a fantastic evening.
Supporting the next generation of our industry remains a top priority. Through our Get Into Mining camps, STEM engagement programs, and scholarships for university and TAFE students, we are proud to encourage growth and opportunity at every stage of a member’s career, from high school to retirement.

Congratulations to our most recent featured members, Peter Taiangis, Dave Contencin, Rukshan Jayasekera and Tracey McMaster.
Finally, thank you to everyone who attended our most recent luncheon, with nearly 600 members and guests joining us to hear from Amanda Lacaze. We were truly privileged to welcome one of the most impactful speakers ever to take the stage at Optus Stadium.
Thank you again for your continued support. I look forward to the year ahead and to building even stronger connections with our members and partners.
