Why are you interested in joining the Emerging Professionals Advisory Committee (EPAC)?
I am at a stage in my career where I am actively seeking opportunities to deepen my understanding of the sector, broaden my network, and contribute meaningfully to industry conversations. The Emerging Professionals Advisory Committee offers a valuable platform for engaging with peers who share a commitment to shaping the future of the industry.
In my role, I have observed that companies within the mining sector, along with those in the energy and other heavy industry sectors, recognise the importance of visibility and stakeholder engagement; however, they often lack guidance and clarity on how to effectively reach and influence the right audiences, as well as how to invest in this area of their business in a way that aligns with their commercial objectives. Through this lens, I am passionate about bridging this gap and elevating how companies communicate externally in a way that translates to shareholders and other audience members.
To this forum, I would bring a perspective grounded in marketing, communications, and industry positioning and contribute to discussions around how the sector can better engage investors, stakeholders, and the broader community. In return, I am eager to learn from others within the Committee, gain deeper insight into operational and strategic challenges, and build long-term connections across the industry.
Please share any ideas or initiatives you would introduce to better engage Emerging Professionals across the industry and grow participation in WA Mining Club EP events:
One area that presents a significant opportunity for growth is how the WA Mining Club Emerging Professionals EP engages with younger audiences through digital channels and community-led initiatives.
Today’s generation consumes content very differently compared to previous generations. Therefore, enhancing visibility across platforms like Instagram and TikTok could greatly improve awareness and participation. I propose exploring a dedicated social media presence for WA Mining Club EP, bolstered by cross-promotion with the main WA Mining Club channels, to create content specifically tailored for graduates, early-career professionals, and students entering the sector.
In addition to promoting events, this platform can cultivate a stronger sense of community through trending short-form content, industry spotlights, behind-the-scenes event coverage, career stories, and educational insights that render the sector more accessible and engaging. For instance, it would be beneficial to spotlight professionals who have previously been involved with WA Mining Club EP and illustrate how the network, connections, and opportunities have contributed to their career progression in the sector. The aim is to make involvement more relatable for young professionals while showcasing the long-term value of participation.
If this isn’t already done, I am also interested in exploring initiatives that promote peer-to-peer growth, like referral programmes or member nomination pathways, allowing WAMC professionals to encourage graduates and junior members to participate.
Ultimately, I believe that enhancing accessibility, visibility, and relevance for younger professionals will strengthen participation and support the long-term growth of the WA Mining Club’s EP network.
