Why are you interested in joining the Emerging Professionals Advisory Committee (EPAC)?
I am interested in joining the Emerging Professionals Advisory Committee because of the positive impact the WA Mining Club has had on my own professional development and confidence within the resources industry. Joining the Club in 2024 challenged me to step outside my comfort zone, expand my network, and learn from people at different stages of their careers. Through events such as Miners Mingle, I experienced first‑hand how supportive and welcoming the community is, particularly for emerging professionals who may be new to industry networking.
I am keen to join EPAC as an opportunity to be more actively involved in a community that has supported my professional growth and helped shape my understanding of the resources sector. I believe I can offer a practical and relatable perspective from my experience across operations and contract‑related roles, and I value the importance of fostering inclusive, approachable events that encourage genuine connection rather than transactional networking.
As a committee member, I hope to support initiatives that help emerging professionals build confidence, expand industry awareness, and feel a strong sense of belonging within the WA mining community. I am enthusiastic, dependable, and open to learning, and I would welcome the opportunity to contribute to EPAC while continuing to grow alongside other emerging industry professionals.
Please share any ideas or initiatives you would introduce to better engage Emerging Professionals across the industry and grow participation in WA Mining Club EP events:
One initiative I would be keen to introduce is a buddy system for new EPAC members and first‑time attendees at events such as luncheons and Miners Mingles. Pairing newer members with existing committee members or more experienced EPs could help create a welcoming environment, support introductions, and build confidence in relationship‑building. This would also help newer members feel more comfortable navigating networking settings and encourage stronger connections from the outset.
In addition, I believe a practical “how to network” session led by EPAC committee members or committee members could be a valuable initiative. This could focus on sharing personal experiences, tips for starting conversations, making meaningful introductions, and following up after events. Framing this session in an informal and relatable way would help demystify networking for emerging professionals and make EP events feel more accessible and inclusive.

The WA Mining Club Emerging Professionals aspires to drive diversification and innovation within the mining industry, through creation of a forum that supports development and retention of young professionals. We will establish a career-long network of individuals who are building their careers in mining.
Members of the WA Mining Club receive access to a broad range of industry speakers, who discuss technical, operational, legislative and regulatory matters, as well as sharing thoughts on the broader industry.
Our monthly luncheons are regularly attended by in excess of 300 members, all eager to listen, talk and share information about their experiences with their industry peers.
Being a member of the WA Mining Club provides the very best opportunity around to meet other industry professionals and discuss topical issues, challenges and innovations with others across the spectrum of the Western Australian mining industry.
