The Get in to Mining Camp programme resumed last week with the WA Mining Club taking 25 students down south to some of WA’s most prominent mine sites. This initiative is designed to give students from Year 10 and up the opportunity to rub shoulders with some industry heavy hitters, whilst giving them the opportunity to see exactly what happens at a real mine site – something that is not normally accessible.
This camp was strongly supported by some familiar businesses – Prok, who supplied the hard hats, Gold Road Resources who supplied the boots and Ventia who supplied lunch boxes and meals for the trip.
The students, during their time at the camp, got the opportunity to visit the Talison Lithium, Westrac, Albermarle Kemerton, North Capel Operations and Boddington Gold Mine sites. We would like to thank each and every one of our hosts for offering their time and expertise for this programme – intiatives like this are not possible without your support.
Experiences like this are invaluable when helping promising students decide what career path they want to pursue. The opportunity to rub shoulders with industry heavy hitters and step inside real underground mines is something these students will never forget. We all know that the mining industry is sometimes perceived as a bad industry – so being able to show high school students what it’s really all about is vital to us. We are honoured to be the vessel for students to take their learnings and create a strong future for the mining industry by sharing it with their mates as well as help them make a firm decision on wanting to join the industry in any sector.
