The St Barbara’s Day Luncheon is the final event of the year and celebrates the Feast of St Barbara – the Patron Saint of Miners.

Traditionally held on the first Friday of December, WA Mining Club members and their guests take the opportunity to pause and appreciate the people dedicated to the mining industry, and celebrate the rich endowment of mineral wealth that underpins much of our economy and provides hope for the future. It is a time for fellowship and fraternity, and to remember those who have been lost in our industry throughout the past year.

Our guest speakers take the opportunity to share their personal journey of their career in the resources industry – particularly the highs and lows, and generally provide a story of inspiration to our audience.

St Barbara’s Day is one of the Club’s biggest events, often attracting 500+ guests and is always attended by leaders of industry, government and media.

This year, we are looking forward to hearing about the journey taken by Alex (Alexandra) Atkins, from Alex Atkins and Associates.

Alex has more than seven years of non executive director experience with listed companies & NFPs. She is currently a non executive director of ASX200 company Perenti Global (Based in Perth) & International Women in Mining (based in London) and a former director of The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM).

She has over 25 years’ mining experience across Australia and PNG in roles that find, design & run mines, regulate mines & in the Big Fours. She is also MD & Principal at Alex Atkins & Associates, which is a mining risk consultancy focused on conformance (board assurance) and performance (digital transformation).

Alex holds two Bachelor of Engineering Degrees and an MBA (Finance). She is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is a Chartered Professional Fellow of The AusIMM and Engineers Australia. She was one of 2018’s 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining (WIMUK) and was inducted into the Western Australian Women’s Hall of Fame in 2019. She is also the mum of two teenagers.
