The event title was your author’s somewhat misguided attempt at acronym substitution – of course AI is Actually Impactful…… It’s had a notable impact already in the resources industry and most among us have a growing sense that the impact is only just beginning.
So, the AI steam train is well and truly rolling. Where and how did it start, what rails are needed and will it stay on them ? We’ll explore the current and potential role of AI in the resources sector and what it means for the workforce of the future. We’ll explore some of the potential pitfalls, from workforce casualisation and job elimination, to potential future worker dissatisfaction, de-skilling and the diminishment of practical human knowledge. We’ll possibly touch on some of the inherent challenges with respect to the availability of and competition for water for cooling and energy to power the data centres in a world attempting to decarbonise. Where is this all heading, what will be the most significant areas of use and how will it impact our world ? All this and more will be on the table for discussion.

Your author is feeling rather smug and pleased with the Emerging Professionals Committee for rounding up such an auspicious panel to pick apart this timely and important topic. Now it’s over to you – grab a ticket before this sells out to avoid disappointment. Put the worries of the world aside for an evening and get along to Perth’s best resources networking organisation – this event is run by the WA Mining Club Emerging Professionals Sub-Committee, but is open to all age groups.
