Sustainability & Climate Change

Past to Present | Alignment and Values

Sustainability and Climate Change is about managing our risks, reducing our adverse environmental, social, economic and cultural impacts, and supporting and sustaining the communities and environments in which we operate.

It’s about minimising the impact of our operations on the environment and biodiversity, through all stages of development, from exploration to closure.

It’s also about working with our communities of interest to address legacy issues, such as orphaned and abandoned mines.

So how are these things being done? How are we as an industry contributing to global initiatives to promote the production, use and recycling of metals and minerals in a safe and environmentally responsible manner?  How are we practicing continuous improvement through the application of new technology, innovation and best practices in all facets of our operations?  How are we managing risks and maximising opportunities?

This is what our panel will discuss to work through the alignments and values we share as an industry.

Our Panel for this discussion will be:

  • John O’Brien, Partner, Energy Transition & Decarbonisation at Deloitte;
  • Richard Beazley, Director at Hydrogen Energy;
  • Alison Terry, Director, Sustainability and Corporate Affairs and Joint Company Secretary at  Fortescue Metals Group;
  • Chris McCombe, General Manager – Sustainability at Minerals Council of Australia; and
  • Michael Williams, Senior Sustainability Advisor at Bellevue Gold, who will moderate the discussion.
