The mining industry is changing rapidly, and tools such as automation, analytics and artificial intelligence now dominate the headlines.

In partnership with ECU, the first edition of the WA Mining Club 2018 Education Series will provide insights on the opportunities and challenges in smart mining covering predictive analytics in industry collaboration, innovations across geoscience and exploration, and custom autonomous technology.

The ECU Education Series will ignite conversation and debate on the latest developments in the mining industry. Join the discussion over breakfast at the Hyatt Regency, 15 June 2018 from 7.00am.

Facilitator

Kirsty Danby
President, WA Mining Club

Kirsty will be leading the conversation.  She is responsible for all facets of the ECU Education Series, and carefully selects the topics and industry specialists for each event. She is particularly adept at encouraging our speakers to openly share insights and experiences, challenging them to tackle some of the tougher industry issues.

Kirsty is the Founding Director of Platform Communications and has 18 years’ corporate affairs and ESG experience.  She is currently the Chairman of Curtin University’s Board of Humanities, the President of the WA Mining Club, on the Boards of Solaris Cancer Care and the Petroleum Club of WA, and the Chairman for AOG Diversity & Inclusion.

Barry Fitzgerald
Chief Executive Officer Roy Hill

Barry has been working for Hancock Prospecting on the Roy Hill Project since June 2010 and was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Roy Hill Holdings Pty Ltd in May 2012. Prior to joining Hancock Prospecting Barry was CEO of CITIC Pacific Mining and held senior management positions with BHP Iron Ore, BHP Engineering, Henry Walker Eltin, Simon Engineering and Roche Process Engineering.

He has a broad range of operational and construction project experience in the construction, engineering and maintenance sectors.

Barry holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) and a Masters of Engineering Science from the University of Western Australia, and a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Curtin University.

David Ruddell,
VP Planning & Technical – Minerals Australia BHP

David Ruddell was appointed to the role of VP Planning & Technical for Minerals Australia in 2016. David is responsible for managing geoscience and exploration, resource engineering, business planning, directional studies, tenure and approvals for BHP’s Australia Assets.

David joined BHP in 2000 at Blackwater in Queensland as Coal Processing Manager, before moving to marketing, strategy and business development roles. From 2004-2007 David, based in China, led work to understand the future of the Chinese coal industry, as well as establishing BHP’s presence in Mongolia.

In 2010 David was appointed VP Strategy & Development for Metallurgical Coal. In 2013 his role expanded to include strategy and business development for BHP’s global Coal business.

Prior to joining BHP, David specialised in maintenance and engineering, working for Rio Tinto Iron Ore; BP in downstream petroleum; and in the paper manufacturing industry.

David’s career spans over 26 years in the resources industry holding leadership roles in strategy, business development, resource development, marketing, operations management, engineering and maintenance.

Rob Derries,
Manager RCT Custom

Rob leads RCT Global’s Custom division, which provides custom technological solutions to acute mining challenges. He specialises in delivering innovative projects that improve safety, production and equipment integrity through automation.

Rob manages a team of talented engineers and project managers who combine research, innovation, design, manufacturing, installation and training to deliver an end-to-end solution to mining companies both large and small. His team has successfully delivered projects across all key global mining regions including Australia, Africa, Russia, US, Canada, South America and Pacific Ocean (PNG and Indonesia).

Rob brings 25 years of experience across fixed and mobile plant control and automation, robotics, electrical and mechanical maintenance and engineering. While his expertise is in the mining and metals sector, he also has experience in manufacturing and industrial environments.

Matthew Andrews
VP Sales APAC, Schneider

Matt Andrews is the VP of Sales for Asia Pacific at Schneider-Electric Process Automation.  Based in Singapore, Matt’s primary focus is developing new business in the Asia Pacific region leveraging the extensive Schneider-Electric product portfolio. He has over 21 years of process industry, petroleum and petrochemical experience.

Matt leads the APAC sales force and deals directly with the major process industry clients located in over 20 Asia Pacific countries. Prior to joining Schneider-Electric, he worked for The Coca-Cola Company, Aspen Technologies and Honeywell Inc.

He has a strong multicultural background having lived and worked in several countries across North America, Europe and Asia with a proven ability in devising and implementing business growth strategies for sales organisations as well as contracting strategies and execution plans for global major projects.
