One of the club’s favourite programs is the Scholarship Awards, where we assist our Partners and Sponsors in creating a brighter future for promising young mining students. It gives winners the opportunity to gain experience that wouldn’t normally be accessible alongside assistance to funding their studies.
The keynote presenter for this event is David Rose, Director Advisory Services for KPMG Australia.
David is a mining engineer with 40 years of diverse experience in the mining industry across base metals, coal, diamonds, iron ore, bauxite and lithium in both open pit and underground and across owner-operator and contract-mining settings. He spent the first 30 years of his career in operating mines commencing as a graduate mining engineer in Kambalda where he spent 8 years before moving to the central Queensland coalfields. In the last 15 years of his operating career, he held senior executive roles including GM at Rosebery Mine in Tasmania, GM at Century mine in NW Queensland, MD of Argyle Diamonds, COO for Rio Tinto’s iron ore assets in Guinea, India and Brazil, and COO for St Barbara Gold Mines.
David has been consulting in mining management since 2013 with a diverse range of companies, over 40 in total, across Australia and globally, and is currently a Director in mining consulting with KPMG. His areas of expertise are end-to-end practical and conceptual understanding of what makes mining operations tick, and identifying and implementing improved ways of managing/operating mines at a technical, operational and social level.
The event will be held at the beautiful Hyatt Regency in Perth with pre-drinks commencing at 6pm.
