Thank you to BCI Minerals and their CEO David Boshoff for a very informative presentation on their Mardie Salt Project. Should a dinner party conversation ever turn to the subject of industrial salt, the 500 people who attended the WA Mining Club’s May luncheon at Optus are now well equipped to hold their own on the matter. Even better if there’s a ceramic salt shaker on the table to use as a prop.
……. and what a great story the Mardie Project is ! After a seemingly interminable approvals process, the evaporation ponds are filling with seawater in readiness for production and cashflow in late 2026. In addition to being well funded for both the capital build and the first three years of production, this project has some serious advantages over typical resource operations – no hassles with reserves and resources reporting / depletion (the ocean is quite large), no need for drill and blast and an abundance of port capacity. Simply pump the ocean in, let the sun do its thing, make salt crystals, then harvest and ship them via their own port to an eager bunch of insatiable customers. Then further diversify the project by adding a sulphate of potash stream in due course, once a pilot plant has been constructed and run for a year to iron out any bugs. The Mardie Project is set to become a mainstay of Pilbara wealth creation for generations to come !
