Why are you interested in joining the Emerging Professionals Advisory Committee (EPAC)?
I am interested in joining the Emerging Professionals Advisory Committee (EPAC) as I would like to be part of a professional body which encourages the development of young professionals and supports them in their career paths. Besides the formal side of this, I admire the role of the EPAC committee in fostering relationships between people, and especially the role that bodies such as EPAC which focus on the young professionals side play in helping people to navigate the wider industry.
I believe it is important to have mentors who can help to guide and assist you in whichever path you take and in the same way I have seen the impact that EPAC has in providing opportunities for new people in the resources industry to connect with and learn from experienced professionals and those who have the wisdom and knowledge to share. I also know that being part of the EPAC committee is a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community and play my role in helping others to gain the most out of experiences, the same way the WA Mining Club has given me so many opportunities over the past year and supported me through them. I would hope to contribute to the aims of the committee and bring my perspectives as a to-be recent graduate and from a mechanical engineering background where my development and career has been so largely shaped by the resources industry.
Please share any ideas or initiatives you would introduce to better engage Emerging Professionals across the industry and grow participation in WA Mining Club EP events:
Initiatives I would like to help introduce to better engage Emerging Professionals across the industry is to build on the current aims of the EPAC committee and extend it to the technical and skills development side of the industry. I have had the wonderful opportunity to attend numerous Miner’s Mingle events which have helped me to develop confidence in engaging with professionals and have given me insights into so many different topics and the learnings shared by the experienced guests. Where I would like to help make this impact even greater is if a similar format was to be used but dedicated to the guest speakers also running a slightly longer more workshop like format where they can dedicate time to specific skills or case studies in their area and maybe engage in smaller groups. One of the most engaging aspects of the miner’s mingle is the relaxed and comforting atmosphere even amongst a room of highly regarded people which I think should be kept across any sort of event. However, maybe an extended workshop style, keeping this social element at the conclusion, would allow for the young professionals to learn and develop across another aspect, in some areas of general technical knowledge or skills that are useful across the industry.
Ultimately, I believe that enhancing accessibility, visibility, and relevance for younger professionals will strengthen participation and support the long-term growth of the WA Mining Club’s EP network.

The WA Mining Club Emerging Professionals aspires to drive diversification and innovation within the mining industry, through creation of a forum that supports development and retention of young professionals. We will establish a career-long network of individuals who are building their careers in mining.
Members of the WA Mining Club receive access to a broad range of industry speakers, who discuss technical, operational, legislative and regulatory matters, as well as sharing thoughts on the broader industry.
Our monthly luncheons are regularly attended by in excess of 300 members, all eager to listen, talk and share information about their experiences with their industry peers.
Being a member of the WA Mining Club provides the very best opportunity around to meet other industry professionals and discuss topical issues, challenges and innovations with others across the spectrum of the Western Australian mining industry.
