Alaxandrea O’Brien 2026 Nomination

Why are you interested in joining the Emerging Professionals Advisory Committee (EPAC)?

I am interested in being involved in EPAC as I am keen to be in a space which aims to bring about change and economic security for WA and the nation as a whole, with the resources sector being critical to this every step of the way. I hope to gain inspiration and experience whilst bringing strong leadership qualities such as initiative, a creative mind, and collaborative spirit. Bringing the voices of both regional WA and those emerging within the sector to the table, I hope to contribute with cause and purpose, always keen to learn. I am passionate about the role the resources sector has to play in education prospects, and what this looks like in uplifting that for WA, I see EPAC as a space to bring this about, so that more young people gain interest in the sector and can experience the same mentorship and opportunities that I have.

Please share any ideas or initiatives you would introduce to better engage Emerging Professionals across the industry and grow participation in WA Mining Club EP events:

My ideas include:
Education prospects and initiatives for young people to gain interest in the sector, engaging tertiary and emerging professionals through differing styles of events i.e. run clubs/walks/site visits/expos on the achievements within the resources sector. I would love to bring to the table ideas around conversations between our seasoned mining professionals and those emerging, mixing innovation and tradition in meaningful initiatives, whether it be the place of technology and AI, differing working styles, or the roles emerging in industry with changing mine practices in the presence of electrification.
