Why are you interested in joining the Emerging Professionals Advisory Committee (EPAC)?
Most people know me as a naturally social person but despite this, when it comes to public speaking or even leadership, I do lack confidence. I am really wanting to challenge myself, to contribute ideas and become a better leader.
I already attend many of the Mining Club and EP events that take place throughout the year, and I appreciate the togetherness of this network. In addition to my own growth, I believe I bring perspective and skills that would be beneficial to the committee in furthering its reach and influence.
Please share any ideas or initiatives you would introduce to better engage Emerging Professionals across the industry and grow participation in WA Mining Club EP events:
Without knowing the current challenges that the EP committee might be facing in terms of engagement and participation, some of the main ideas that come to mind include:
– Event collaboration with the Young Mining Professionals (YMP): Even though they are international, collaboration with their Perth Chapter would enable us to co-run events, leverage respective networks and cross-promote.
– At Miners Mingle or EP-only events: A prize on the evening (for example) a complimentary ticket to the next WA Mining Club lunch – benefit being the EP gets to sit at an (allocated) table with established businesspeople in an aligned profession.
– Email Newsletters that add value to EPs: dedicated email communication (e.g. a quarterly distribution) to EP members – these could be newsletter style. Might include the following content:
– Capture achievements of select EPs (a highlight/shoutout).
– Outline events upcoming within EP/MC.
– Scholarship opportunities (not just MC facilitated ones, look at government grants, companies in the industry and make EPs more aware of what’s out there).
– A callout from any member companies with graduate/earlier career job role openings that we may choose to promote.

The WA Mining Club Emerging Professionals aspires to drive diversification and innovation within the mining industry, through creation of a forum that supports development and retention of young professionals. We will establish a career-long network of individuals who are building their careers in mining.
Members of the WA Mining Club receive access to a broad range of industry speakers, who discuss technical, operational, legislative and regulatory matters, as well as sharing thoughts on the broader industry.
Our monthly luncheons are regularly attended by in excess of 300 members, all eager to listen, talk and share information about their experiences with their industry peers.
Being a member of the WA Mining Club provides the very best opportunity around to meet other industry professionals and discuss topical issues, challenges and innovations with others across the spectrum of the Western Australian mining industry.
