Wow, just wow!
We sat in awe as Tania launched a fierce, blistering and sustained attack on current government policy settings relating to the resources sector, highlighting that they are pretty much diametrically opposite to what is required to underpin a thriving resources sector. From unnecessary industrial relations policy settings that hark back to the bad old days in the Pilbara, to energy policy settings that are driving up the cost of power, to unwieldy heritage and environment approvals that do little other than cause delays, you could be forgiven for thinking the government is treating our industry as a vote grabbing pinnata.
Summarising Tania’s vibe, it’s kinda important to our country that balanced and supportive policy settings are consistently maintained for our resources sector so that we can continue to responsibly produce the minerals demanded by our modern world. We should be encouraging mining in Australia and not vilifying it in the quest for cheap votes. The demand for minerals will remain whether we mine here or not and the best outcome for the planet is to mine in stable jurisdictions with world’s best environmental practices. ……. and as an added bonus all Australians can continue to enjoy high living standards, supported in no small way by the success of our resources sector. Pretty simple really, not rocket science …..
The crowd chatter after the event in the room and later at the Camfield was along the lines of “Tania for PM !!”. We would do well to take heed from Tania’s parting advice that we should strongly, actively and unapologetically stand up for our fantastic industry whenever the chance arises to do so !

We look forward to welcoming you all to the next luncheon at Optus Stadium on Thu 1st May, which will be a panel discussion featuring experts from the world of all things nuclear, from mining policy, to nuclear plant design and costings to waste management. This discussion will build on from Jono Fisher’s energetic and power packed myth busting presentation at last year’s July luncheon. Look out for further details of this event and we look forward to seeing you all there!
