Past Presidents and Life Members Mike Cippitelli and Neil Watson as well as Life Members, Michael Hebden, Eddie Plume and Vic Bullo attended the recent WA Mining Club luncheon. The club is proud to celebrate and champion our Life Members. We will be releasing the list of 2023 eligible Life members soon for members to vote.
This month we presented certificates of appreciation to the WA Mining Club STEM program’s sponsors. Johnex Explosives, PitnPortal, RUC, IGO and Northern Star Resources have all backed the program that encourages school children to explore the value of studying STEM subjects through Years 11 and 12 and the many opportunities that are created by doing so.
Following the trend of investing in the future generation of mining, the committee has been working hard in the background on the club’s scholarship program. I am pleased to advise that we are expecting to have one additional scholarship added to the list this year, the HSE scholarship, resulting in a total of 13 scholarships. We look forward to hearing 3 of our past scholarship winners participate in a panel discussion at IMARC. All the best to James Fox, Tim Sanders and Angela Zalich.
Our Emerging Leaders program has had a large uptake. The program is a place where professionals of all ages in the mining industry have the opportunity to connect with experienced industry leaders. Emerging leaders’ mentor and mentee applications are open all year with the committee reviewing and pairing members as applications are submitted.
The club’s events are growing from strength to strength with St Barbara’s day first release tickets sold out in record timing this year. There will be a second release in the next few month.
The annual WA Mining Club Gala Ball was a great success with members and guests celebrating our mining community’s hard work, dedication, and achievements.
The September Luncheon’s topic is, Gold: Stealthily in Vogue with the key discussion topic around the world of gold production, costs are rising, approvals timeframes are lengthening, ESG pressures are mounting and investors are eschewing gold in favour of critical and energy transition minerals. What place for the yellow metal in this brave new mining world – when and why will investors return some lustre to the gold sector?
Dani Tamati, Jordan Pedley and Tim Taylor represented the mining club committee at Diggers and Dealers. Congratulations to; Pilbara Minerals who won the Digger of the Year award; Allkem who won Dealer Of The Year; Patriot Battery Metals who won Best Emerging Company; Neil Warburton CEO of Barminco, as the recipient of the GJ Stokes Memorial Award; Australian Financial Review’s Brad Thompson for winning the media award and Luca Danavaro Hanza who won the Ray Finlayson Award for Leadership and Academic Excellence.
