Bernard Hoogenboezem, former lead of the Young Professionals Advisory Committee (YPAC) took a moment to reflect on his time as lead.
When I first joined as a YP member, I just wanted to contribute to the industry in any way I could. It has been a privilege to help build something meaningful for the next generation coming through the WA mining industry.
I didn’t expect how much I’d learn from this experience being a slightly older YP, but that’s just what I loved about it. My passion for this industry has only grown stronger, and being surrounded by driven young professionals has been a big part of that.
The YP community keeps you sharp, honest, and focused on what actually matters: connection, professionalism, and creating genuine opportunity for people at every stage of their career.
I’m incredibly grateful to have worked alongside a group of talented, motivated people who all put their hand up for the right reasons. The YPAC team, the WA Mining Club Committee, our speakers, sponsors, and everyone who turns up to these events, you’re the reason this program works.
A huge thank you to the people who’ve supported me along the way, encouraged ideas, and backed the direction we’ve taken. It’s been rewarding seeing the YP initiative grow into something that genuinely adds value to the industry.
I’ll still be around supporting where I can, just without the “official” badge, and I’m excited to see where the next group takes it. The future is in good hands if you ask me.
