One of the key goals of the WA Mining Club is to encourage young people into the mining industry.

In 2003, the WA Mining Club launched a major education initiative with its decision to offer a single university scholarship each year.
The Scholarship is targeted at students intending to work at a professional level in the Western Australian mining industry and is called the West Australian Mining Club Scholarship.

In previous years, the successful students have received $10,000 in the form of a cash grant paid over a period of two years ($5,000 per annum). Payment in the second year is conditional on satisfactory academic progress in the first year.

Recipients are also able to take advantage of a mentoring programme, provided by senior industry participants from the membership of the Club, in his/her chosen discipline. The opportunity for appropriate vacation employment may also be pursued through the membership of the Club
