Gold Road Resources’ recently retired CEO, Ian Murray, will provide an honest reflection on his successful long-term career in the mining industry. We look forward to a discussion of the approach that he has taken throughout his career and his thoughts on the future of mining in WA.
Heidi Pass is a leader, pioneer and empowering role model in the mining industry who is passionate about enhancing gender equity to promote opportunity and growth for all. She is one of two woman to have achieve the role of Chief Geochemist at a major mining company globally. We are incredibly excited to learn from her unique perspectives.
These two speakers will offer practical advice and inspired insights that will help young professionals grow and develop both as individuals and future industry leaders. Following each inspirational address, the speakers will be taking questions from the floor, so come prepared to explore the lifetime of experiences and lessons from these two industry powerhouses.
Mr Murray is a qualified Chartered Accountant with more than 20 years’ corporate experience working for publicly listed resources companies.
Between 1997 and 2005 he held positions including Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive Officer with DRDGOLD Ltd. Mr Murray oversaw major acquisitions, restructuring and stock exchange listings that grew DRDGOLD from a small, lease-bound South African miner into a globally listed multi-mine company producing over 1Moz of gold per annum at its peak. During this time he also served on the board of South African gold refinery Rand Refinery Limited and the internet-based commodity investment platform GoldMoney.com.
Prior to this he qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG, worked in Management Consulting with PricewaterhouseCoopers, worked in the South African Revenue Service and assisted in establishing one of South Africa’s most successful biotechnology companies.
Mr Murray stepped down as Managing Director & CEO of Gold Road Resources in September 2018, and is now the company’s Executive Director.
Heidi is a leader, pioneer and empowering role model in her industry. She is one of two woman to have achieved the role of Chief Geochemist at a major mining company globally, and the first Canadian undergraduate to sail with the international Ocean Drilling Program. Heidi’s professional roles have taken her from the Artic to the Outback and soon to Antarctica. Dr. Pass has loved learning about the earth and revealing its secrets through geochemistry for close to 20 years. She completed her double major Hons BSc in geology and chemistry at UVIC in Canada, and graduated from CODES at the University of Tasmania with a PhD in Economic Geology. Currently Heidi uses her ore deposit knowledge and natural curiosity to unravel meaningful geochemical signatures in the search for gold deposits at Gold Fields Australia.
Heidi is passionate about enhancing gender equity to promote opportunity and growth for all. She’s honoured to be a role model supporting the progression of women leaders in STEM and she is currently a member of the WA Chamber of Minerals and Energy: Gender Diversity Reference Group.
